2008 Major Mission
Energy and resource conservation - including use of electric power, fuel, and oil - has been a focus of Alter for many years-primarily driven at the facility-level in efforts to reduce operational costs associated with increasing energy and petroleum costs. Throughout 2008, we will identify, monitor, and implement continual actions towards a comprehensive, corporate strategy to reduce energy, fuel, and oil consumption.
2007 Major Mission
Environmental initiatives set forth in 2007 focused on increasing recovery of reusable and recyclable resources from end-of-life vehicles, such as gasoline, oil, antifreeze and mercury switches. Aspects of these initiatives included:
- Allocating resources to improve equipment and systems at our yards to facilitate demanufacturing of end-of-life vehicles in a manner that is safe for the environment and our personnel
- Enhancing our communications to our suppliers of crushed end-of-life vehicles to encourage removal of fluids and mercury switches prior to delivery to our shredders.
The results are state-of-the-art vehicle demanufacturing stations at our receiving yards, an auto demanufacturing program including a Mercury Reduction Program, and distribution of a multi-media presentational brochure that is distributed to each of our suppliers.
