2008 Major Mission

Energy/Resource Conservation
Energy and resource conservation - including use of electric power, fuel, and oil - has been a focus of Alter for many years-primarily driven at the facility-level in efforts to reduce operational costs associated with increasing energy and petroleum costs. Throughout 2008, we will identify, monitor, and implement continual actions towards a comprehensive, corporate strategy to reduce energy, fuel, and oil consumption.

2007 Major Mission

Vehicle Demanufacturing
Environmental initiatives set forth in 2007 focused on increasing recovery of reusable and recyclable resources from end-of-life vehicles, such as gasoline, oil, antifreeze and mercury switches. Aspects of these initiatives included:

  • Allocating resources to improve equipment and systems at our yards to facilitate demanufacturing of end-of-life vehicles in a manner that is safe for the environment and our personnel
  • Enhancing our communications to our suppliers of crushed end-of-life vehicles to encourage removal of fluids and mercury switches prior to delivery to our shredders.

The results are state-of-the-art vehicle demanufacturing stations at our receiving yards, an auto demanufacturing program including a Mercury Reduction Program, and distribution of a multi-media presentational brochure that is distributed to each of our suppliers.
