The Des Moines facility has been servicing the area since 1972. In 2007 it was relocated from the Maury location to Hull avenue where it currently sits on nearly 20 acres. After the relocation, Alter added a shredder to their facility to process numerous commodities. Currently, Des Moines is processing 7,000gt of shredded steel and shipping roughly 100 railcars with various ferrous commodities every month. Des Moines also has a fleet of 11 trucks with over 200 drop boxes and trailers to service local business and industrial accounts with pickup service. Customers can accept payment by check, or a visa card, in which customers are able to reload each time they bring in material. Des Moines has one of the largest NF warehouses in the company at around 10,000sq feet. This allows them to ship out 2,000,000lbs of NF material a month domestically and overseas. Additionally, it admits them to provide peddler traffic with 6 oversized bay doors for customers to pull in and unload, sheltering them from any possible inclement weather. Des Moines accepts appliances from the public free of charge and is licensed to De manufacture all appliances. The warehouse is also home to the Des Moines cutter which is 1 of only 2 catalytic converter cutting operations in Alter. It began production in January of 2010, and processes approximately 10,000 converters monthly from multiple Alter locations across the region
